A MORE SURE WORD
Scripture Reading - 2 Peter 1:18,19,21
18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. KJV
It is interesting to note that the Apostle Peter heard audibly the Powerful Voice of Almighty God. The Voice of our Heavenly Father spoke to Apostles Peter, James and John about His beloved Son Jesus in Mark 9:2-8. Our Heavenly Father spoke distinctly to Peter with the aura that surrounded His Person in the glory of His Presence according to this same account in Luke 9:28-36. Peter felt in his body the magnified strength of God voice and fell on his face according to Matthew 17:1-6. However, even with all the splendor of God’s majesty Peter teaches us that the written Word of God is “a more sure word” of prophecy. This is due to the fact that there will always be some people who will question (doubt) our personal experiences with God. The Lord seems to favor stable doctrine about His Person over Heavenly experiences with Him personally. Thus, seeing the Word of God in written format in the Holy Bible is “a more sure foundation” because all men are given the same information to know God more deeply. Often the critics of God will try to discredit the Holy Bible but its profound truth certifies its validity. This teaches us no matter what we may hear from other people or even our own personal encounters, the Word of God written in the Holy Bible takes precedence over the experiences of men. We have to keep our focus on God’s Word as our Source of enlightenment because it is the Lord speaking personally to us. The only way to be strong and steady in these fluctuating times is to consistently believe and speak God’s Word in faith. Having a holy appreciation for the men and women of God’s Word keeps you open for God’s Holy Spirit to move upon you in light and revelation from God’s Word. Therefore be doers of the Word and in your doing you shall be strong in the Lord and in the Power of His Might. The answer is not in the prophecy of men but solely in the power of the God’s written Word in the pages of our Holy Bible. Knowing exactly what to speak in agreement with God’s Word enables the believer to speak boldly as the oracles of God. This boldness in the earth as the voice of God is following the footsteps of Jesus by speaking “a more sure word” of prophecy. Amen!
